Album art + 'now playing' symbol

Postby macca » Sun Jan 17, 2010 3:46 pm

Firstly congratulations on such fantastic plug-ins as TunerfreeMCE which I've been using happily for months now and Spotify MCE which I've just tried.

A couple of issues I have with the latter (running on W7 in Norway) (I am using the free version of Spotity so far, in case this affects your functionality) -

- I'm seeing no album art in Spotif yMCE - artist art background is showing but all albums are showing with the 'CD in a box' picture. I'm getting album art as normal in the Spotify application
- during playback in Spotify MCE the 'playing' symbol (mini equaliser with bars moving up and down) shows both on the track being played and all tracks played before. Is this deliberate? If you intend to show played tracks could you use a static icon to distinguish from the animated 'now playing' one?

Keep up the excellent work!!

Hi macca,

Have a go with the new release - Songler 1.0. Amongst a lot of other things (primarily to do with last.fm), it fixes the album art issue to some extent - although Spotify don't make their data available, so I have to go to discogs instead. The now playing indicator has always worked fine for me - give it a go in the new version too.

Hi Martin
if you are gtting the abum art from discogs.com you might take a look on the code that grabs the info.

E.g., take 'The Timewriter', there is a picture of the guy and if you click an album you have cover art, but in Songler there is nothing

I took a look. The problem is that all of the albums for The Timewriter on Spotify are reported by Spotify as being by "Various Artists", and so Discogs can't find the albums. That's quite unusual - most artists don't have that issue.

That seem strange I think. You mean that Spotify and the API don't return the same information?

Actually you are right - I misread the data. Spotify is returning exactly the right data, but the discogs api is returning no data for anything other than Various Artists. For The Timewriter it is returning;

<resp stat="ok" version="1.0" requests="147"><artist><name>The Timewriter</name><releases /></artist></resp>

i.e. no releases. Which is odd because their web site does find it. Anyway, that's why there are no album images.
